1 June Borrow, Alaska
3 birds seen w. of Nth Road - between it & The
insect plots (1 displaying bird seen on Nth area).
The 2 birds in the vicinity are perpendicular
To the road when 1 displacer in good breeding
plumage : The other was a very whitish underside
and rose / red crown & a marked
back.
The displaying bird was feeding -
small patches of grass from it. Then -
It would go into display flight (south
for less than 10') + give the deep
Nah, nah, nah. Then land - resume
feeding. No winging behavior was
noted.
Several times, it displayed for a minute
or two - about 8-12' above the ground-
with extended & rapidly quivering wings. (It)
Tail was slightly spread
& it would be carried
by the wind for that distance while
in the pasture, before returning to
a more direct course.
In this case, The display landed -
Nuffled its both feet on - stood the
neck forward with the tail slight
