Holmes,B 1957 Pluvialis dominica 7 July Barrow, Alaska broken wing act. She up-ended, that is the tail end came up and the neck rested on the ground and wings were spread like so: She then flopped in this position for several seconds and at the same time moving several feet. Finally she seemed to give up and assumed a normal posture. This was where she was nearly 70 feet away from me. During this whole performance, various sharp call sights were seen attempting to draw the observer's attention towards the fleeing bird. The mate of the bird did not show up until I was leaving, but he immediately joined the first pair in giving loud sharp call calls as I departed. 10 July Barrow, Alaska 6 seen in a small flock on UOTI's area. 13 July Barrow, Alaska.
