Holmes, R 1960 Clangula hyemalis 2. 17 June Barrow, Alaska This lasted for about 1 minute during which the & gave several calls. He then sped up & tried to climb on the back of the &, but she scooted away. This was attempted several times, and finally, the & took flight, the male followed & the whole procedure started all over again. During the 35 minutes, I watched the pair, over 20 minutes were spent in the air flying back & forth for 200 yards. Once on the water, the & succeeded in landing on the &, and both birds went under water for a fraction of a second. Copulation may have taken place (?). They appeared to be a Lake Stoat in courtship between the members of a pair. 23 June Heroville (Barrow), Alaska Numerous pairs are now seen in the vicinity of the wagon & the plot. 28 June Wainright, Alaska Several birds (mostly &) were noted on a pond near the site. 1 July Heroville, Alaska Several pairs present next to the census plot
