Holmes, R. 1959 Clangula hyemalis 7 June Barrow, Alaska. Many noted in the lead off The bow. There amounted of both 82 and 88 in varying stages of plumage. Both complete winter and full summer plumage was noted. The birds were moving in all directions which seemed to be a random movement. A group of 20 or 30 would fly to the west and then turn and fly east again. There was no pattern to their movement - such as migration - possibly they are waiting for the melt off to begin - so they can move on to the ponds and begin breeding activities. 10 June Barrow, Alaska One flock of about 40 seen flying forward The NW over the gas well road.
