Somateria spectabilis

22 August Barrow, Alaska
One male seen at the mouth of
Whalebone Slough. It was in full
eclipse plumage and was
unable to fly. Its plumage color
was very dark with some
gray mottling about the neck
and head. A female was also
seen in the same locality.
3 Sept. Barrow, Alaska
One male in complete eclipse
was seen 20 feet fly shore in
the Arctic Ocean on front / The base.
The bill profile was diagnostic;
but otherwise it was
brown, barred with black.
