Holmes, R. 1954 Somateria spectabilis 2. 19 June Barrow, Alaska A group of 15-16 flew over the beach ridge in the direction of central marsh. 29 June Barrow, Alaska One male seen on freshwater lagoon at 1300 and 1730. 2 July Barrow, Alaska One male still present at Fresh- water Lagoon among the old-squaws. He was seen diving several times. 5 July Barrow, Alaska Several (6-8) males and a few females (br imm) were seen on the pond north end of spit, east of Munk. 20 July Barrow, Alaska Several males seen between Aplin Munk. Most were flying westward. 31 July Barrow, Alaska One male found with a broken wing in the Shout Elsa Lagoon. Two other dead males also found 5 August Barrow, Alaska Several large flocks were seen flying over the Saranpit. Most of the birds were in molting plumage. Several individuals were seen in Clear Lagoon. No females were noted.
