9 June Barrow, Alaska
A pair seen along Elsa Logan between
Wohl + Otapik Slough. They were feeding
in a deep trough which held some
standing water (2-3'). A pond was
nearby. Another pair was feeding
about 100 yards away in a similar
area.
10 June - 3 pairs seen in ponds near Elsa
Logan (between Wohl Sl + Otapik).
11 June - 1 pr. Flying west along ar beach ridge.
12 June - 2 pr. on beach ridge no. of census plot
13 June - 1 pr. near Britan's Area
20 June - 1 pr seen - Beach Ridge
23 June Tukovik (Barrow), Alaska
During the past 2 days, a pair has
been seen near the Wanyan. This
evening, 2♂ + 1♀ were in the pond
in front of the camp. All 3 birds
were doing the hood jerk - when
the head is jerked so that the
bill is pointing directly
upward. The 2♂ would
be to each other, or one of the
♂ would do it toward or with
the ♀. These hood jerking sessions
would last for 40-60 seconds
then there would be a short period
