Cammati Creek, 1450 st., San Luis Obispo Co., Calif
Sept. 1. Checked Badger trap. Some sort of thing ate
most of the meat off. The carcass I put
there yesterday without disturbing either traps
or carcass. There were no tracks about that
I could see to give a clue as to
the animal or bird responsible.
Skinned the linnets I shot yesterday.
Then drove down to water tank for a
shot at the doves. Today is the first
day of dove season and many friends
of the rancher here are in here for dove
hunting. Drove past the water tank
and collected Horned Larks.
About dusk, the doves began to come
in to water. Went out by camp and
all four of us took a crack at
them all in addition to the regular
hunters. Dr. Miller got 4 and I
got 1.
Sept. 2. Broke camp and drove to Pozo to
Ranger guard station to get permission to enter
the closed section of national
forest. Then drove to La Panza Ranch,
met Eben McMillan and drove to cabin
in Martinez Canyon. Set out steel trap
before dinner. Heard Poor-willers and
Canyon's Wrens.
