Demeel who also trapped there had similarly poor luck. Went out hunting over hills to north-east of camp. Went through Jigger Pine in rather thick growth at bottom of narrow valley. Saw Gray Squirrel which Demeel. shot, two immature Red-tail Hawks, heard Brown Towhees, Hairy Woodpecker, & Thrashers. Walked up to head of valley. Pines gave way to Oaks and grass. One region proved to be heavily grazed. Could see Red Mountain which was just north of our first came to North-west of hill-top. Saw only Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and a few Bewick Wrens on hillsides. A few Bluebirds were around the oaks. Crossed ridge and walked down canyon parallel to first one which I came up.
