Salt 1947 Journal Cammati Creek, 1450 ft, San Luis Obispo Co., Calif. Aug. 27. Ran trap lines. Poor results. 2 8" Dipo's., 1 Peromyscus truei, and one Perognathus. All were caught in manzanita. Took a long walk north of camp up Cammati creek bed. mostly through cottonwoods, then fanned out to right and left into the Digger Pine and Juniper in the washes entering main creek bed. Flushed a large owl which I guessed to be one of the young Horned Owls. we hear calling each night. Took some shots at Brown Towhees but missed nearly all. Was shooting 38's. Got one with a half load. He later proved to be so damaged could not be put up. Beechy Ground Squirrels are thick in the flat regions, especially in the over grazed grassland by the water tank 1.6 miles north of camp. Dr. Miller says they are all young ones. Came back to camp and skinned. Set traps west of camp in Juniper, Manzanita, Scrub Oak. After supper went out with Dehnal & Store looking for Poorwills shot one. It was on the ground under a large Valley Oak.
