Camanati Creek, 1650 ft., San Luis Obispo Co., Calif.
Aug. 25 Broke camp this morning. Drove to steel trap location at the mouth of Jellis Canyon. Met Mr. McMillan there. He had a young kit fox caught in one of the traps. Went further up wash and found a mephitis in another set. Both sets were in a wash and baited with dead Dipos with rocks placed on them.
Drove out to Chalone Valley with McMillan to Hancock Ranch to look for Condors. Saw none crossed out McMillan caught a young Coluber.
Drove from there to Shandon, then to this location on the Cammata ranch. Country here is mainly low hills covered with Adenostoma, Eriogonum, Arctostaphylus, Quercus Douglasi, i., Pinus Sabiniana. There is a small stream right here where we are camped. Camanati Creek. Sage Sparrows are coming in here to water. Collected one.
Set out 70 traps. Line runs up hill along crest and down side again through these plant associates in this order: Eriogonum f, Arctostaphylus, Eriogonum-Adenostoma, Arctostaphylus and back to Eriogonum. Heard Poor will & young Horned Owl. Dr. Miller got a Screech Owl.
