Aug.22. Put out traps before dinner... Ran a rectangular
checkerboard of traps over relatively heavy growth of Haplopappus in alluvial fan at mouth of canyon where I trapped last night.
Aug.23. Checked traps first thing. Caught nothing but an immature Dipos and 2 Peromyscus maniculatus, one ♂, one ♀. Walked north along cottonwoods along stream bed with Dekuel. We covered the area about 3/4 mile north of camp for about two hours. Saw West. Bluebirds in abundance. Collected a Calaveras Warbler, White-breasted Nuthatch, and a Coy. Jay.
Heard Jinnets again. Saw Pileolated
Warblers again. Several Yellow- billed Magpies were feeding on a dead cow,
tried to collect some but didn't get one till later at camp.
After lunch put up skins until supper.
Drove to a portion of the river bottom 1 1/2 miles upstream from camp & set 70 traps in an almost pure stand of Distichus grass.
After supper drove into Shandon.
Saw a Kit Fox crossing the road on the way in.
