Salt 1947 Journal 5 mi E., 4 mi S. Shandon, 1175 ft. San Luis Obispo Co., Cal. 21 Aug. Saw a Shrike as well. Saw Prairie Falcon over the pasture land in the valley floor south of camp. Set out trap line of 75 traps on west side hillside at mouth of large wash north of campsite. Ran traps from middle way up hillside down onto "fan" at mouth of canyon. Aug 22. Checked trap lines first thing. Didn't catch much but got some variety. Perognathus californicus, ins. Dipodomys, ins Reithrodontomys, and an Onychomys torridus. After running trap lines walked up through the cottonwoods along the stream side south of camp. Collected Pileolated Warbler, Warbling Vireo, Hutton Vireo. Saw a Red-tailed Hawk during our walk. Also many Yellow & Pileolated Warblers in the trees. Dehnol took a shot at a male Western Tanager but he got away. Came back to camp. Put up an Epsteinus I shot last night. Put up skins till 3:00 PM. Then drove to Shandon for water. Saw plenty of Sunsets along the road there. Also several Western Kingbirds, Dark Sparrows, and a dead Beechy (?) Ground Squirrel on the road.
