Salt 1947 Journal 5mi E, 4mi S, Shandon, 1175 ft, San Luis Obispo Co., Calif. 20 Aug. Wind blew and it was cold and damp. last night, Didn't sleep well. Checked traps in morning - Caught a Dipodomys agilis, 2 Peromyscus maniculatus and a Reithrodontomy's ludovicianus which spoiled during the day and was not put up. Put up skins in morning including a Lanius ludovicianus which I shot yesterday and failed to mention. Saw Mex. Bluebirds, Brewer Blackbird, heard white-breasted nuthatch, West. Meadowlark, saw a Sparrow Hawk, Downey Woodpecker, Marsh Hawk. This morning a Coyote appeared at the "fan" at mouth of a large draw 300 yds from our camp, sat down and barked at us for about 15 minutes. He finally disappeared. Last night Storer and I shined a young (large) Horned Owl. Also heard a Barn Owl. Drove to Paso Robles to buy another blanket. so After dinner set traps in a "fan" at mouth of canyon in a grassy Artemesia growth. Will get names of other plants there tomorrow,
