Salt 1947 Journal Pinto Basin, 3 mi. S., 1\frac{1}{2} mi W., Pinto Peak, Riverside Co., Calif. April 27 (cont.) Cottonwoods and water four miles up road in long canyon. However, we found the road goes only as far as old aqueduct construction dirt dump where the road is completely washed out and impassable, about at the point shown for the road end on topog sheet. Turned back, went through Desert Hot springs to Aqueduct road north east of- Desert Hot spring and going east on this road into little morongo canyon. Drove about 1 mi. up road in canyon from mouth and camped for night. Clear, [illegible] cool, but warmer than last night. Heard screech owls and Desert sparrows. April 28. Little Morongo Valley, Elev. 1500', Riverside Co., Calif. Got up and put up specimens before breakfast. After breakfast began looking about for specimens. Our east campsite is on the left bank of a dry wash on a little of sand about 10 feet above wash floor, between wash floor and the hillside. The floor of the canyon is spotted with Chilopsis and other plants. and is mostly hard packed coarse sand. The hills are sparsely vegetated with
