Boca Spring, 6000 ft., Nevada Co., Calif.
I sprang the trap at him but he got away--. That concluded the drinking bug
that species for the day--. Most of the activity about the spring petered out about
11:00 AM with a slight rise again about 4 P.M. Sceloporus graciosa in rocks
about spring--. Saw first Sciurus douglasii today + heard a few calls from others--.
Very reduced from numbers here last fall.
Eutamias all over the place--. One lives
in the willows about spring--. Also a
golden-mantled ground squirrel come in
to the spring to drink--. There is a
toad, (Bufo boreas ?) which I have
neither caught nor identified living in
the pool--. Shot at bats after supper
with the same deadly effect as last
night--.
May 29
Up early, broke came took off for
Reno--. Saw a few gulls + a loon
on Boca Reservoir--.
Jook Dixon out to titmous locality
12 mi S. Reno on Virginia City road--.
Went into Reno for supplies picked Dixon
up at noon + ate lunch by an
irrigation ditch--. Heard some Bullock Orioles
+ House Finches there, drove to Mono Lake
