near the rock face. Also Calif. Jay and
Spotted Towhee. Down in the stream bed
found little stagnant pools of water 2 to
4 feet long and 6 to 12 inches deep about
every 100 yards along stream bed. Found
Junipers interspersed with Sycamores. Saw-
Canyon Wren, large Sceloporus, Lawrence
Goldfinch. Collected a Butarnias.
Came back to camp and skinned
until four o'clock. Set two #2 steel
traps (single) on rock face baited with
Quail and scent for bassariscus. Also
set a #3 double steel trap in the path
like this bank. Idea being animal

Dr. Miller brought an immature
purple finch down from Mcchesney
mtn which I skinned.
Shot at bats in evening. No
bats hit.
Eben McMillan shot a buck. He
says there are surely Mountain Lions
in these hills and that their tracks
are seen often. He says he has
never seen one though.
