Reset these traps on Swan's Ranch where there is an abundance of workings. Slept in truck in the field. Skull 13411♀ Scapanus Skull 13412♀ " " Herm x very small small mounds. coll. Jan 31 1959 193-35-21 -- 5 emb x 7mm mounds 192-35-21 -- Feb 2 1959 Traps still do not work. From 18 sets had 11 misses + 7 no works. Feb. 5, 1959 Since the traps have failed to take ♀s in sufficient numbers I'm gearping [sic] for ideas to get more of them and last decided to try to dig them out but with the aid of a gadget to tell me when they were working. Decided to have a light go on when they are working then sneak up and dig them out with a shovel.
