3 mi. NNE Canyon, 8400 ft., Yellowstone Park,
Wyo.
Sept 9 1967
Out of 25 traps took 5 Microtus richardsoni,
2 Zapus + 1 Sorex sp? (2/14511). These traps were
set in a area along a very small trickle
of water and in a pupdige area where
there is green grass & lodge. Right here
is where I bumped into "Sam" bull
moose that couldn't stop eating while
I was setting the traps. Rained several
times during night & was raining
at 7 A.M. Picked up mouse traps in rain.
Made 4 gopher sets near camp last
night & this morning had 2 gophers.
Rained off & on during morning. This is
last day of collecting. Looked like it
turned about right too. Many places
are closing & the weather has taken
a bit of a wintery turn.
Tomorrow I'm going to try my
hand at fishing the Madison River
& then it's home.
