3 mi. NNE Canyon, 8400 ft., Yellowstone
Park, Wyo.
Sept 4 1967
Didn't see a single flycatcher of any
kind. Have been hunting for deep, always
hoping to hear the quiet tapping
of some sapsucker & finally heard
it in the quiet of the ASM. Made
a sneak & found a Williamson
busy exploring the lower trunk of
a lodge pole. End of story, for him.
Out of 26 mouse traps set in along
tiny trickle running up slope from
this picnic area & through lodge
pole took: 5 Peromyscus maniculatus
2 Microtus richardsoni 2 Zapus.
In after noon checked traps & had
1 young richardsoni + 1 Lincoln
Sparrow. Left the traps out.
Sept 5, 1967
Warm this morning - at 6:30 was
around 45°. Now at 9 P.M., we are
having a shower. From the 26
mouse traps took 1 Flying squirrel,
2 Zapus, 3 Peromyscus maniculatus +
1 Clethsonomys. The latter taken
from trap set on top of log. I
usually think of getting them
beneath a log.
