M.C. Russell Slough Cr, 6300 ft, Yellowstone Park, Wyo. Sept 2 1967 A Great Blue Heron stopped on gravel bar in the creek. Made an elaborate sneake on it. It flew away. Can't find a Sapsucke in the aspen, DougFir or in willows in meadow. Last night saw 3 Nighthawks over creek so will be looking for them this P.M. assuming the Fishermen will ever leave. No just trying to stay clear of people all the time! Sept 3 1967 Made a short hunt early and took 2 Savannah Sparrows. This sparrow likes the more open sparsely grass covered slopes or the more bare bottom areas. Where as the Lincoln Sparrow prefers the denseer grasses and willow thickets of the meadows. Would say the Savannah sparrow is the wilder of the two. They are both hard to flush & get especially after the breeding season. Took the yellow headed black bird from a large flock of mixed brewers, red-wing & yellow head. These flocks feed in early morning on hills above the pot hole lakes.
