Blacktail Deer Cr., 6700 ft., Yellowstone Park, Wyo
Aug. 30, 1967
Drove around some toward Tower Junction looking for another place to camp but no luck. There are no side roads in this damned park where one can stop.
Aug. 31, 1967
Left Mary Meagher's key in the ranger office in Mammoth & checked out of her area. Drove to Tower Junction & talked with rangers about places where we could get out of sight.
We are now camped on Slough Creek about a mile from where it joins the Lamar River. This is a huge meadow with a few clumps of old willow. Set out 55 mouse in meadow sedges some 30" high. No water to speak of but ground still dampy. 13 hockers were pasked on the creek. Have flushed several Wilson Snipe, Black-birds are beginning to flock - Yellow-head & red-winged shrikes.
