W.C. Rossell Blacktail Deer Co., 6700 ft, Yellowstone Park, Wyo. Aug 29 1967 From the 52 traps set last night took 4 Mics & 2 Jays. Then in afternoon took 3 Mics. Assume # 14432 is a young of the species like # 14431. If so it's strange that most of the Mics taken are young. Have only taken 2 large ones. Hunted up slope through the aspen & lodge pole patches. The Crossbills are not in flock. Saw 2 together & the one taken was alone. Worked the meadow some more trying for these elusive sparrows. Took 1 young white crowned or one Lincoln sparrow. They are hard to come by. I may be reduced to trying some wing shooting. Saw 2 Red-tailed Hawks but couldn't get close. Last night we heard Canada Geese going over. Heard 1 elk bugle this 6:30 A.M. Oh yes it was cool last night, thermometer showed 34° at 6:30 A.M. with frost in meadow. Thunder showers during the day.
