of making me a collaborator, without pay, issuing a permit. The papers work is endless. Talked in the office of the chief Naturalist. They weren't too encouraging about areas where one could collect and be away from tourists. We camped for night in what is known as the overflow campground at Mammoth. Arrived at Naturalists office at 8 A.M. sharp & by 9 we had a permit to take small birds & mammals. Then visited office of Patrol to inform them we were headed for Stephen Creek, N of Gardiner. This is an area, a relatively late acquisition of the Park, a sagebrush mesa along the Yellowstone River that is good Antelope Range & mixtis range for Elks Due I judge from the cropped antlers.
