Mc Russell W Fork Yaake River, 5000 ft, Lincoln Co, Mont. June 26-27 This afternoon June 27, a weasel ran across the road & into a log pile right by the tent. Trap now baited with chickaree. Scrembeling around in the talus slopes saw 4 Hoary Marmots took 2 of them. Herd a few conys but only actually saw 2, took 1. These conys at least to-day, would not be picked to the surface of the rock slides. Hard to figure what they eat as there is practically no grow around rock slides & absolutely now in the slides. It's surprising that so far on this trips we haven't heard a crossbill. July 2 1966 The thought just came to me that here we have what looks like typical mountain country, many streams, high snow country, heavy timber, fogged over area and the only flycatcher in the Olive-sided. No Empididae of any kind seen or heard! Another bird not encountered so far at either camp have been crossbills.
