W.C Rossel Spar Lake, 3300 ft, Lincoln Co, Nod. June 20 1966 This A.M. we headed for Troy for supplies & stopped enroute at a cut over area to hunt at 3100 ft. First time I have actually seen Chestnut - backed chickadee. Found few - elk & black bear? tracks. Though according to all reports there are Skizzlys in this area also. Started 1 Pignay owl calling loud strong, as I got close to it, it stopped Calling. Had better success in this area with Pigney Owl calls and small birds, at one time had junco's chestnut backed chickadee Townsend Warblers & Creepers all flitting around while I called, also Red breasted Nuthatches were in on the deal. In afternoon set out 35 traps at stream side & back a bit in timber. Also baited 9 rat traps with Bacon & put them on all tables in any ground, hoping for flying squirrels. June 21 1966 From mouse traps set in immediate vicinity of camp took 5 Zapus, 2 Perom. maniculatus & 2 Sorex vagraris. No water shows as yet. Between all of us we took 4 Empidomyz
