W.G. Russell Spar Lake, 3300 ft., Lincoln Co, Mont. Warbling Vireo Audubon Warbler To[illegible] Warbler Wilson Warbler Evening grosbeak Western Ganager Chipping Sparrow Junco Pine Siskin Cassin Finch Meadow Lark Pygmy Owl. Chestnut-backed chickadee Black-capped chickadee Mt. Chickadee Townsend Solitaire American Magpinner Blue Grouse Mourning Dove Horned Owl calliope Hummer Creper June 17 1966 Set 50-75 traps from the canyon bottom up a N facing slope of Spar Creek. This N facing slope covered with heavy timber. Straight stemmed Cedar & White Pine mostly, 150' tall - 24" diam with only moss ferns below. Canyon bottoms same trees only larger with a gravelly floor instead of moss as on slope. Built traps with rolled oats. Not as many down logs as I would like to see and not much litter. Been lucky so far - no pain since we arrived.
