M.C. Russell En route to NW Montana.
June 12, 1966.
Left Berkeley at 7 A.M., bound for NW Montana, accompanied by the following men: Peter Pimer, David Conard, David Moore & Richard Johnson. Traveling in 2 trucks, one International & GMC pick-ups.
We went via Sacramento, Reno, Wells, Twin Falls, Salmon, Missoula & Kalispell. Arrived in Missoula around 3 P.M., of second day & had a visit with Dr. Richard Tabet. That evening camped at Pipe Game Refuge. On the 15th finally arrived at Spar Lake, 3300 ft. at 7 P.M.
June 16, 1966.
A very interesting country. Locally called a rain forest. The area is covered almost solid with Western Red Cedar, Hemlocks & White pine with a few Doug. Fir & in the canyons the trees are up to 36" diam & must be 150 ft. high: N facing slopes very lush with heavy growth of ferns & moss.
