Tumalo Cr., 4700 ft., 11 mi. W Bend, Deschutes Co., Ore. June 28 1964 Moved to above location this A.M. This is same location where a M.V.Z. field trip camped in '47. We are here to take more Western Flycatchers. June 29 1964 Very quiet this A.M. Remark has been made & it seems to be true - there are no young birds about. Appears that the storms of 2 weeks ago must have broken up many nests. Heard only 2 Western Flycatchers sing & could not find either. Found a nest of yellow billed Tawnychkers - took 1 & crippled & lost the mate. The one left appeared black like the one taken. Heard 2 or 3 Hammond Flycatches. For most part they were farther from stream than Westerns. 7:30 P.M., cloudy & looks like rain. Heard some distant thunder. This country - like many other places will be full of houses someday. Right now they are selling lots, covered with Lodge Pole Pines along Tumalo Cr. The sign advertises sites for summer & winter cabins.
