Wc Rossell Brazie Cr, 4600 ft, 10 mi. E Prospect, Jackson Co, Ore. June 26, 1964 very tall timber with and understory of vine maple. Westerns all through timber away from stream, heard 5 calling & got 10. This seems to be par for the course. Extremely difficult to tell direction of notes + had hard to see birds in tall conifers. Did not hear any Hammondii in this timber. June 27, 1964 Drove down to a point 3.5 mi. ESE Prospect, at 2700 ft., to hunt for Western Flycatchers. This area has been logged with scattered tall trees + a wealth of young trees. There were Westerns scattered all over the area, paying no attention to stream side conditions whatsoever. Some areas when they were seen or heard there was no water at all. Did not hear any Hammondii at all. This really is where we should have been collecting the last few days. We could have gotten a fair series under much better hunting conditions. No H2O drowned out the songs + much easier terrain to walk over. Due very plentiful at all elevations. See brand new fawns.
