W.C. Russell Thomas Cr., 6100 ft, Modoc Co, Calif. June 9, 1964 Rained all night and all morning & started snowing in afternoon. This was too much weather for me - hunted for awhile but gave up. Yesterday when driving 3 1/2 mi. E of Liled, where road crosses the 3 Fork of Pit River - two badgers ran across the road in front of truck. One seemed to be pursuing the other all the while giving a grunting sound. The assumed there were some sort of mating antics going on. However the one taken still has its milk teeth. Also however there was a very pronounced musky odor on this animal. June 10, 1964 Snowed last night & this A.M. the country was white - 4-6" of new snow & I guess all the birds were underground. One could go an hour without seeing or hearing a bird. In addition to the blanket of snow it rained all morning. Delightful tramping around. Couldn't use field glasses so just shot anything I could aim at. Result - some hot! 240 yds
