June 6, 1964
I hunted in vicinity of camp, giving Pigeon Owl calls. So far have seen no sign of any Ridglets or White-breasted Nut Hatches. Birds not too vociferous what with showers & dull sky. Took a solitary wiro on ridge above camp in tall Fir & pines. There was a few minuts of sunshine & wiro was war singing.
June 7
Rained most of night. Let up this A.M. to slight drizzle. We went out for a short hunt before breaking camp. There are quite extensive patches of manzanita. In the vicinity of this shrub was where the Fox Sparrow was taken. Rain let up long enough to get truck loaded. Drove into Alturas to a motel for night.

Drove around the country looking for a camping spot. Only good improved county roads are passable now after 4 days of rain. Finally made camp in public camp ground on Thomas Cr., just W of Cedar Rade, 1.5 mi. W of Pass. See next page for note on Badger.
