M.C. Russell Strawberry Cr., 8500ft, Snake Range, White Pine Co., Nev. June 23 1962 For some time but no activity. He left car at 6:20 and made Stella Lake at 8:20. The sign say 5 mi. & it's all up. There is a fair meadow at the lake but only sage & and occasional small fir around meadow. Not a single bird on meadow. A pair or 2 of Mt. Blue birds, occasional pair of juncos, good number of sickins & chipping sparrows. Heard a few ruby-crowned Kinglets & that was it. Never heard a Nutcracker or a swift. Very disappointing trip. Heard 1 Stellar Jay and way up. Saw 1 pair of Williamson Sapsuckers & 1 pair of Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers on trip up. Its possible there could be a few Rose Finches on Whales but certainly the flow is not crawling with them. Heard an occasional woodbill too. June 24, 1962 Hunted along creek near camp. This is a mixture of willow thickets, aspen sage & scattered white firs. # 139/5 Flycatcher was observed on nest, with 4 eggs. Nest in crotch of a willow 7' above ground Willows was one of several clumps in a small meadow between aspen patches. Nest contained 4 white eggs
