Strawberry Cr., 8500 ft. Snake Range, White Pine Co., Nev June 22, 1962 This morning early Ron Church & I drove up the new road that is being constructed from Lehman Camp around to Stella Lake. That got us exactly nowhere. The road ends high on the mountain side in a huge & facing area of Mt. Mahogany 6 mi. from Stella Lake. No sense in starting to hike from end of road. Road will be completed to Stella Lake next year. So we drove back to camp & started to hike up to snow on Baldy. This is some 3-4 miles & got up to 9-10,000 ft & were in snow knee deep - with no Rose Finches. Now we will assault Stella Lake to-morrow by 5 mi Lehman Cr. trail. Oh my aching legs. June 23, 1962 Have been to Stella Lake. This park when established will have one distinction. It will be the national park most nearly devoid of bird life. We saw practically nothing on the 10 mi. of trail & scarcely anything at the lake. Least of all Rose Finches. Now tried to get to glaciers but was stopped by deep snow. We gassed the glaciers
