W.C. Russell Lexington Ar, 8300 ft. Snake Range, White Pine Co., Nev. June 20 1962 cottonwoods at lower elevations along the creek. Was poking along creek among aspens near camp and took a ? Evening Grosbeak. Her gonads were not dormant - largest ovum 2 mm + she had absolutely no fat. Looked like she was getting ready to breed. It's a question however. Went into a new area of timber to try for Flammulated Owls as the moon show it is coming up late - around 11 P.M. On no time started 2 calling but simply could not see them in dense firs. Finally after more than an hour I came out on an exposed branch of a fir + he was taken. June 21 1962 Moved camp to - day to Strawberry Cr. Have no map of the area so can't at this time give elevation. The usual plant association. Aspen along creek, white fir forests on N facing slopes + Mt. Mahogany an S facing slopes. Sage brush on open flats + slopes. June 22 1962 Well we are making assaults on Whites Peak area itself trying to get to possible Ross Fork country
