Hunted in the vicinity of camp to-day. Took a pair of Downy Woodpeckers in a pure stand of smallish aspens. Tree 4'-6" in diam & 30ft. high. They gave a few notes but for most part these and all other woodpeckers are very quiet. Found nest of Brun-tailed Towhee 18" off ground in a fir about 3' high. This was on a logged slope where there was manzanita, listemeea, aspen & some white firs. Used caller quite a bit and had one doe come on the run at me. They have new fawns now and are easily disturbed. Even when I waved my hat at her she stayed within 60yds. of me. Have been trying to call in a goshawk but no luck yet. Weather is really warming up now. So far we have not seen a single bat.

Broke Camp and drove to Lehman Cave to inquire about timber in Baker & Lehman Parks. Met a ranger at the Monument by name of Trepier, a former M.V.Z. student. He reported Abby Finchie at the Monument 4 weeks ago. He also said they had been reported on the glaciers on Wheeler Peak in the summertime.
