W.C. Russell Snake Cry 8400 ft., Snake Range, White Pine Co., Nev. June 9, 1962 Hunted down stream around 7000 ft. level. Worked on birds in cottonwoods & willows. The water makes so much noise it's difficult to hear them. Never saw a jay out in Pinons but did find an nest that looked like a jay one in a pinion. Warbling vireos a plentiful but such birds as Spotted Towhees & Black-headed Grosbeakers are very widely spaced. Seems as though the available habitat is not all being utilized. The cedar warping taken was in a willow along stream & I was alone. There were numerous woodpecker holes & many were thumped by with rocks from a sling shot nothing emerged. The hairy woodpecker taken, was only woodpecker seen. Had visit from game warden Mr. Bud Dale. He said New. Fish & Game was opposed to the Wheeler Peak area being made into Natl Park on grounds it will allow an already large deer population to grow & further deplete the already over grazed winter grounds. Or they would not be opposed if the Nev. outfit could be in charge of fish and game.
