Snake Cr. 8400 ft., Snake Range, White Pine
Co., Nev.
June 4, 1962
There is a robin nest in a white fir
tree 5 1/2 ft. high - the nest is 3' above the
ground. The tree is 25 ft. from our
fireplace. Both birds came in with a
load of worms - they fed and then the 4
settled down on the nest. Now 7 P.M.
daylight time & getting nippy.
So far I haven't seen a golden-mantle
groundsquirrel & only 2 chipmunks.
Mk & D tried to start the Flammonulated but
he saw or heard last night but no luck.
Fine quiet night - not cold - bit of overcast
but couldn't get a sound from it.
Ray Alcorn of Fallow arrived in camp - we
thought to spend a few days with us. He
had intended to do some small mammal
trapping for specimens to form a
diepside case for the Fish & Wildlife
Service. He asked in the City office of
Mr. Fish & Garne if it was O.K. to
set out mouse traps without a
permit & they said No! He is employed
by Fish & Wildlife Service on predator
and rodent control work. Though he can
kill thousands of rodents with poison
he cannot save them as scientific
specimens. Sounds idiotic doesn't it.
