W.C. Russell Snake Cr, 8400 ft, Snake Range, White
Pine Co., Nev.
June 3, 1962
The canyon of Snake Cr has several
branches all of them with very active
streams as there is a heavy snow pack.
There are extensive aspen groves in
the bottom made up of trees as large
as 12-15" diam x 50 ft high. The N facing
slopes are covered with dense stands
of aspen & white fir. The S facing slopes
have immature stands of Mt Mahogany.
Have encountered a few small patches
of manzanita. And of course sage usual,
every place that lacks trees. The stream
side has clumps of willow & nine bark.
Took a Citellus grammurus up off the
ground in the base of a willow clump.
This animal was very tame, after twice
they are wary, in fact took her with
a 38 amp. She had 5 emb x 10 mm. I have
noticed in part at times that pregnant
rabbits were not as prone to dash off.
The squirrel had no fat.
Deer sign plentiful between Johnson
& we saw 18 most in white coat
yet. Bucks in velvet.
