Mar. 29, 1961 of rope & waited for a sail to flush. With this method we took 5 clappers & 1 Sora rails. Tied up 3 more clapper & 1 Sora that we didn't get. We were hoping to flush a black rail but no luck. Also flushed 1 Yellow throat. Forgot to mention the Las Flores Ranch & Sky Ranch are some 12 mi. S on highway below the turn off to San Juanito. Beautiful day with very little wind for a change & sunny sky. Mar. 30, 1961 We had heard so many stories of the huge numbers of clams along these beaches. So there was a minus tide at 2-3 P.M. and we decided to try our luck. The son of the local had wanted Mr. Veliz offered to guide us to a good beach. The upper shoreline of this beach was covered with piles of empty of clam shells where people had emptied them. Well it was true alright - we took 3 doz. large Pismo clams in an hour. Mrs. Veliz prepared them for us & served a delicious dinner of fried clam cakes. He stated that commercial fishermen had taken as high as 5 tons of clam meat in a single days haul.
