W.C. Russell San Quintin Bay, Baja California Mar 27, 1961 have taken 5-all 4's. Saw 5 Short-tailed Owls in a group-fresh from Salicornia. judging from rodent tracks around camp they are sure plentiful. In morning every squaft ft. of sand in camp is covered with tracks. Last night set out 9 live traps & took 3 Peromyscus maniculatus, 1 Dipod & 1 Perognathus. We are saving live Peromyscus for a grad student. Mar 29, 1961 To-day we drove some 12 mi. S to the Rancho de los Flores which is operated by a Dr. Perez & Allan Brown of Santa Cruz-the latter an old friend of mine. He went out to the beach at this ranch-a beautiful sandy beach but no birds. Then went next door to the Sky Ranch -a motel+ camp site. They have a fresh water pond with a fringe of tules. Heard Song sparrows + tule wrens & a number of Scup & 1 or 2 Cinnamon teal on the water. It would require a boat to collect on this pond! Returned to camp in afternoon & put on a rail hunt in marsh at camp. We tied bees line on 100 ft of rope rope & while 2 fellows pulled it across the marsh the gun walked in middle
