Left Bush at 6:30 A.M. headed for Baja California accompanied by Dick Holmes & John Ralph. Stopped at ranch in Sunday for lunch, arriving at 11:30 A.M. Went via Bakersfield - Tehachapi - Indio; threw out sleeping bags at El Centro at 10 P.M.

Spent half a day trying to get gun permits & finally gave it up. Drove over a good highway from Mexicali to Tecate & then to Ensenada where we pulled in Motel for night.
Mar 25 1961
Good thing we did to be, it was raining merrily this morning. Arrived at bay of San Quintin at around 3 P.M. Made camp in sand dunes on edge of [illegible] E arm of bay & of the fish @r Canary. Looks like rain - cloudy - wind from N. We are here for Dick Holmes to get a look at the Red-backed Sandpipers on the wintering grounds.

Cold last night & heavy dew. The dew was frozen on table top! Day sunny & windy. They say wind blows a good deal this time of year.
