Dan Wilhof & I went to Marin Co this morning to set mole traps. Took all day to get out 11 spare + 10 live traps. Have reworked the live traps again and will not describe this model till it at least works satisfactorily. Ground in perfect condition by digging. Since the moles think so too far there is much activity.

Very poor luck trapping this morning. In fact took only 2 males from spare sets + 1 live male from 10 live traps. However the few that were taken were in the proper type of workings for each sex during the breeding season. At least according to my theory, which is this. The ♂'s are in the shallow runs & the ♀ in the deep runs with large mounds. The live male, a ♀ is being kept alive in an outdoor pen. It was taken from a series of huge mounds. The one ♂ taken had testes 12 mm. and was in a perfect shallow run with no mounds in vicinity. The tubes of the other ♀ were enlarged and
