W.C. Russell M.V.Z., Berkeley, Calif. Feb 13, 1960 During the day dug out 2 ?'s & 1 ? with the shovel. Two were gotten during the mid day working period & 1 during evening working period. Am beginning to be convinced that there are rhythmic periods of activity of the whole mole population. There is the late afternoon period from 4:7 PM, then an early morning say 5-8 AM. and some activity at mid day. Quite likely there may be something going around mid-night but I haven't observed this as yet. Certainly there is not much doing from say 1 P.M. - till 4 P.M. The activity I'm speaking about is the appearance of new mounds. 3 mi. N Gomes, Marin Co., Calif.
