M.C.Russell M.V.Z., Berkeley, Calif. Jan 18 1960 caught off base in newly filled earth where it will be easy to dig him out. Made up a dozen of these sticks by remodeling the ones from last year. Early this A.M. returned to and W of Tobolew on the Swaw Ranch where I have done so much of my work on previous years. The ground was perfect for digging - from the rains of last week in Palm. Bran grass not over 2" high. One [illegible] limiting factor for the use of the electric stick is that in order to keep an eye on them they must be set in a limited area where they all can be watched from one spot. And they should not be over 4 miles apart for when a light comes on one has to get there fast. Put out 10 sticks in an area of about 125 yds. in diam and had them all set by 11 A.M. As usual, the main activity started between 3:30 PM & 5 P.M. One drawback developed in that sometimes the snow formed a new mound at side of trigger & covered it from top so it failed to light.
