Sept 24 1959
On Sept 11 we had a heavy rain, Besk getting
3" and Marin Co. getting 5." Some areas in
in Sines & Monterey Co getting as much
as 7". On above date went to my mole
trapping area W of Tomales and put out
my live traps. This was 2 weeks after the
big rain and soil conditions were
perfect for digging, both for the moles
and for me. Arrived around 4 P.M. and
they were working all over Mr. Swain's
M pasture. Made a total of 17 live sets
and 4 Spear sets. Slept in car at
rocks over looking Tomales Bay.
Sept 25 1959.
Same old story, out of 17 live sets,
13 sets missed by having moles
go beneath the trap. Can't understand
why this trap worked so well the
first few times it was set.
Caught on mole in spear trap
and dug one out alive with shovel.
Have I've built my mole cages out
doves with the nest boxes
surrounded on all sides by 3" of
glaze wool for insulation against
the cold. 2 yrs. ago the moles died
in nets on cold nights.
