W.C. Russell CanĂ³n del Alamo, 7300 ft., Sierra del Nido, Chile, Nov. June 21 1959 Of the party seeing turkeys every day. Jumped 2 pair of Mebane Zail. Managed to get one. My wing shooting seems to be deteriorating. Found another Rufus-crowned Sparrows nest! This one beneath a rock, - 3 eggs. June 23 1959 We are low on meat so hunted deer today. Worked for 2 hours making a big circle from camp and didn't see a thing. Then at noon when back within 3/4 mi. of camp found a buck standing in an opening, looking the opposite direction from me. This is not the usual procedure for white tail deer. They generally gets a glimpse of this large white tail as they dash off through the thickest areas of hedd. Now to add insult to tired feet, a yearling walked right into camp while we were eating lunch. The lion had been near one of the stub sites, leaving a pile of droppings in trail just 50 ft. beyond the set. These droppings were moved to the set. This cat does very little scratching after depositing dropping, just a couple swipes with a paw.
