The above dozen birds were taken incidentally
on an elk hunt in Idaho. The Canada
Jays, Stellar Jay & Nut crackers were taken
with a mouse trap and a Schuyler traps
placed on the ragged out pelvis of a
deer placed in a pine tree. The birds
were after the chunks of fat on the
pelvis. Grouse, all three kinds were
plentiful and very tame. One of our
party killed a Sooty grouse with
a rock and a Franklin grouse with
a stick. One of the Ruffed Grouse # 13249
was killed on road by a car. About 12" of
snow on level at upper attitudes when
we made camp Oct 5. Weather warmed and
most of snow melted by a week later.
He took 3 deer but no elk.
