W.C. Russell Canon del Alamo 1300 ft, Sierra del Nido, Chik, Mex. June 19, 1959 Took a coyote in stub set at water hole. He had a bit of excitement as Alden started him from the trap site and he took off in high gear with trap and drag. He soon tangled up in some scrub oak before Stark took a shot at him. June 20, 1959 Stark & I went into the main Canon del Alamo to make some stub sets since he had found a lion track in area yesterday. Alden had spotted 2 spring stub traps left there we find by the foreman of this ranch. We arrived on the canyon floor trail and lo behold a lion had travelled the trail last night. We made 4 stub sets in about 1/2 mile of trail. 2 were baited with canned sardines & 1 with a coyote carcass. While making the sets we each took a Trojan - 2 different genera. 1 Stub set by water hole was sprung with what looked like body hair of coyote. No explanation. June 21, 1959 This camp is running low on meat so Stark & I were seriously looking for turkeys or deer this A.M. Nada! Stark did get one turkey so the record still holds 7 someone
