W.G. Russell CaƱon del Alamo, 7300 ft., Sierra del Nido, Chih. Mex. June 17 1959 answering for awhile & then he quit. In mean time I am trying to sit still and flies are really bothersome. Had about given up when he gave a few notes behind me. Luckily I had some back cover and turned around just as he came into view. Only his head showing but that was enough. Very exciting to take a turkey this way. it typical stunt seems to be for them to circle on coming to the call. One nuds eyes in the back of the head. Made two more sit stills in vicinity of camps. June 18 1959 Found a Rufus-crowned Sparrow nest tucked in the base of a clump of grass. It had 2 fresh sparrow eggs & 1 Cowbird egg. Both of these birds are fairly common here. Turkeys appear to be more plentiful than deer here. At least we see turkeys every day - but it is an occasion when we see a deer. The white-sided jackrabbit is fairly abundant and they always are seen 2 at a time. I assume they are pairs.
